Board approves a one-time retention and acquisition stipend

At the Thursday, Jan. 20 school board meeting, the Victoria ISD School Board of Trustees approved a one-time retention and acquisition stipend for district staff for the 2022-23 school year. Reserved ESSER III funds are funding the retention and acquisition stipend.

Board names Stroman Middle School principal

The Victoria ISD Board of Trustees has approved the hiring of Larry Cantu as the new Stroman Middle School Principal.

Quality early education is critical to a child’s social, emotional, and academic development and is the foundation for lasting love of learning.

Starting Tuesday, Feb. 1, Victoria ISD will open a pre-registration “Round-Up” for all community members interested in Head Start 3k, Pre-K, and Kindergarten classes.

Victoria ISD’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) department began Industry-Based Certification (IBC) testing for the 2021-22 school year in October at Career and Technology Institute (CTI), Victoria East and Victoria West High School. Final testing for the fall semester was recently completed, with 158 students earning IBC’s.

Beginning fall 2022, Victoria East and West high schools will move to 8-period days. School start and end times will not change, remaining 7:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

Tonight is the 2022 P-TECH Showcase at 5:45 p.m. at the Career and Technology Institute (CTI), located at 104 Profit Dr., for families and students to learn more about the pathways available and application process. We hope to see you there!

Instrument Tryout Night for fifth-graders

Don't forget! Tonight from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Victoria East High School Band Hall, the VISD band directors are hosting an instrument tryout night where your 5th-grader can try out the different band instruments offered in 6th grade at any middle school.

This is a perfect opportunity for students to try something new and decide if they want to pursue band next year. We hope to see you there!

VEHS alum prepares for Reese's Senior Bowl, NFL Draft

Victoria East High School and the entire Victoria ISD community would like to congratulate VEHS alum Bailey Zappe on his outstanding college career and wish him luck as he prepares for the Reese’s Senior Bowl on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022, and the 2022 NFL Draft to be held from Thursday, April 28 to Saturday, April 30.

Victoria ISD art students recently participated in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo's School Art Competition. Out of the many students who participated, approximately 60 artworks were chosen to represent VISD in Houston on Saturday, Jan. 8.

Out of those 60 pieces of art, nine advanced to the next level of competition and will be on display at the NRG Center in Houston for the duration of the Houston Rodeo from Monday, Feb. 28 to Sunday, March 20.

Victoria ISD is committed to making instructional decisions that support students in finding their “&”, and aligning professional growth initiatives to support our staff in “finding their genius”. Growth is the metric that is the equalizer for all, especially after a school year so greatly impacted by the pandemic. One of the many ways we are encouraging the growth of our instructional staff, which includes teachers, instructional coaches, assistant principals, principals and district instructional leadership, is the “Glow and Grow.”
